Before becoming a journalist, Stephanopoulos worked as a political advisor for the Democratic Party. He gained attention as the communications director for Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign. After Clinton became president, Stephanopoulos served as the White House communications director and later as a senior advisor for policy and strategy. He left the White House in December 1996.
